Garden Exploration…

A new house – a new garden! Fun time spent one sunny, Sunday evening not long after moving into our beautiful pre 1841 listed town house…

I stood in front of a canvas 1m x .5m armed with acrylic paint, ink, emulsion, water, brushes, cloths and sponges and tried to recreate the feel of this Mediterranean style garden…

Exploring colour, texture and to some extent shape and form… over printing with foliage from the very garden. Just a bit of fun, but quite pleased with the end result…

“A Journey round our favourite places…” Busylizzie Art at Bishops Hull Primary School this week…

Creating giant paintings stretching across several canvases in the style of David Hockney was planned by Liz of Busylizzie Art for Y6 at Bishops Hull Primary School in Taunton.

In order to capture something of their love for those special places around the school grounds, the children first explored by taking photos and then identified their top five…

Beginning by watching a film of the man himself, David Hockney, starting a painting across two canvases, the children learned how to plan their space looking at their scene and marking in key elements and using masking tape to guide their first paint marks.

By the end of day one, they had the background ready…

Session 2 began with appraisal of where each group was and next steps as they worked from the background towards the front of their view…

Masking tape and stencil techniques were employed where appropriate, they have worked collaboratively, looking very closely to mix colour, tones of colour and create space in their paintings.

The end results are stunning:

An incredibly satisfying project/commission all-round!

Thank you Rachel White for inviting me in!

Monday morning, looking good!

Over 60, year 3 and 4 children at Creech St Michael primary school  had their second dose of Busylizzie Art in conjunction with Taunton Live Creative and Performing Arts Festival on Monday!

Close looking was the order of the day; there was colour-matching, exploring media, capturing texture in 2D, and working on tone…

Beautiful work – amazing children…so receptive!

Amazing concentration by 4-7year olds…

So yesterday, Tuesday, saw the second of my Taunton Live 2018 sessions with Class 1 at the tiny Sampford Arundel Primary school, and what an afternoon!

Every single child was so engrossed in their looking and drawing as they experimented with media whilst exploring a variety of objects…

In the wise words of  David Hockney, “It’s all about the looking. Looking, looking, looking.”

Taunton Live Primary Art Workshops 2018…

Incredibly busy, productive day yesterday working on final outcomes at Oake, Bradford & Nynehead Primary yesterday.

All children in the school have explored our theme, “When worlds Collide”. From Y1 – Y6, the children have looked, talked, explored, developed drawing skills and an understanding of materials and media…they have combined Lego characters with plants, fruit, and tools with flowers etc, they have created design ideas boards and are now working on their individual final outcomes in response to the theme…

All engaged and all on their way to becoming better artists on their own creative journeys…

Working with Oake, Bradford & Nynehead, Sampford Arundel, Bishop Henderson, North Town, Parkfield, Creech St Michael, Minerva, St George’s Primaries within Taunton Deane this April, May and June

Just some of the work underway – all their own work!

Outside in…

Work had begun on the three 8×4 foot panels to enhance the outside space at The Rectory – a very special care home catering in a unique way for dementia sufferers, however it was not destined to be completed during the winter months! Cold and dampness put paid to the previous rapid progress, but not to be deterred, the manager had other plans for Busylizzie’s Artistic skills and creativity….internal signage which would be bright, quirky, clear and give the home an individual feel!

Here are a small selection of the way- finding signs being hand-painted at present; red on yellow with clear directional arrow incorporated into design and a simple object shape to show ‘what’ is to be found…

Simple, easily decipherable object image contained within the directional arrow…

Having created these two, a thought struck – what about adding a little something to those who noticed, smile?

Buttons, an odd bow-tie and a floral bed cover were added – plans for each bed to have a subtly different cover and toilets to have a configuration of flowers also emerged…

We are now looking forward to watching the effects on the residents when they see clear signs leading them to the important places they need to be able to reach as independently as possible…

Christmas 2017

Playing about with a few ideas to express ‘Christmas’ after exploring texture, form, colour and different scale during my Friday morning sessions…

Chose the “Martian Landscape” to wish a few friends seasonal greetings…IMG_0098

Shame the silver ink looks green! Merry Christmas to you!

Busylizzie Art bringing fun to an outside space…

Work began in earnest on the 8×4 panels of cemflex board which will cover this bland brick wall and create an exciting and colourful view for the residents of ‘The Rectory’ Care Home in Taunton.

Artist Liz, of Busylizzie Art has designed a huge mural to fill the space, consisting of a large tree in the branches of which will live a multitude of creatures real and imagined!

Beneath the spreading boughs, colourful flowers, insects and creatures will hopefully delight those looking from their garden seating…

Return at intervals to see the updates!
